Sensory Modulation 'Making Sense' Workshop

Students who suffer from trauma often miss out on a lot of self regulation development due to the parents or dyad having a stronger relationship with drugs and alcohol than the child.

Sensory modulation is not effective once they are in the red.  It needs to happen before this.

Over 90% of students on the spectrum have some sort of sensory dis-regulation.

Lego based therapy - look this up.  This is good for helping students interact with other.
Jeanette can do this training with us it takes about and hour and a half.
MOE have a library which you can borrow Lego sets from.

BEHAVIOUR IS COMMUNICATION - what are the patterns of behaviour that they are showing here.

Stuart Shanker - Self Regulation Institute.  Lots of good self regulation resources on this site.

"See a child differently, you see a different child."

If our brain gets overloaded by too much sensory input then we want to ESCAPE and get away from this.

Introception is required fro Self Regulation.
Introception Site.

South Australia Curriculum has taken this on largely and has lists of activities you can do.

Very beneficial to do any activities which increase the vagal nerve.

Pause. Breathe. Smile Programme.

Addressing sensory needs are essential; ignoring them or hoping they will 'disappear' with time is not an option.

Structured Literacy

I am interested to know more about Structured Literacy and to compare this is my current practises to highlight possible areas for change to better meet the needs of all learning entering school.

The new Ministry PLD is also an area of interest in this regard although they may still be quite different in their actuality from each other as my understanding from things I have read and seen is that the MOE PLD is not deemed to be "dyslexia friendly".
